Earlier this week I put this video on YouTube.
I usually don’t get much useful information out of the local newspaper. I get my news online or straight to my phone. This particular bit of information however, you had to recognize in order to understand it’s importance. The newspaper had just proved my point for me.
On the front page of the paper at the very bottom was a black bar that looked very “Who is John Galt?”-ish with the simple text, “Who is Adam Hopkins?” and then his url underneath it: www.adamhopkins.net. All the way at the right was a QR code.
(If you aren’t familiar with QR codes, go here. My buddy Jake has a great article on it.) Or, if you have a QR code app on your phone, point it here:
It just so happens that Adam is a friend of mine, so I know what he does – and he’s very good at it. But in case you don’t, make sure you check out his website.
QR codes are part of the new wave in marketing. They are relatively unexplored in my opinion and I don’t think their full use has perhaps even been imagined yet, but we will certainly be seeing them used more frequently – and creatively in the future. Adam is part of the first wave of people using them and he will benefit from it.
On the back page of the paper was an ad for Moore’s At Home. In the ad Moore’s said to check them out on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Again, see my video above to see why those three in particular are important. This is a fundamental shift in advertising. Those who ignore it will do so at their own peril. If you want more information on what social media can do for your business, send us an email.
Great post and so true. Local is what it’s all about. Interesting title. Although you may not learn any valuable business tips by joining Facebook or Twitter, you may be able to get new customers and new customers is exactly what small business should want…
Thanks Phil, and you’re absolutely right. The reason for social media is to attract new customers efficiently, effectively and inexpensively.
